Retract 1. fxg6ep and forward 1. g4 hxg3ep

R271 - Roberto Osorio

Probleemblad, Jan-Feb 2005

Sequence: Sb1->e6; Ra1-b1; Sg1->a1. So only Sa1 or Rh1 can retract a move, and Se6xg7 isn't possible.

-1. Sb3-a1 [Threat: -2. Sd4-b3; -3. Sf5-d4 & Sf5xg7#] Ra8-b8 (now -2. Sd4-b3 Rg8-h8!) -2. Sd4xSb3! and now Rg8-h8 is an illegal retraction: because of parity black must have lost a tempo. Ke8-f8; Qd8-f8-e8-d8; Kf8-e8 is illegal in Stafettenchess, so the tempoloss must've been Rh8-g8-f8-h8, and Rh8 can't move. Black's move order must've been: Sg8->b3; Rh8 loses a tempo on f8; Sb8->f8; Ra8-b8.

R272 - Klaus Wenda

Probleemblad, Jan-Feb 2005

Try: -1. Kf4xPf5[K->e1] Rg5-g3 -3. Ke4-f4 but Ke7-d6! and white has d7-d8=B.

-1. Ke1xPd2[K->e1] d3-d2 -2. Kf4xPf5[K->e1] Rg5-g3 -3. Ke4-f4 f7/f6-f5 (Ke7-d6 is illegal, because of Pd3. In anticirce, pawns can't get past each other) -4. c6-c7 and forward 1. Be7#.

R273 - Wolfgang Dittmann

Probleemblad, Jan-Feb 2005

-1. Sc5xPd3[S->b1] Kc7-c6 (now the black king is 'retro-pinned') -2. b6xBa7[P->a2] (and now the white king is 'retro-pinned' too). ~ -3. Be5-g3 (-3. Re2-f2? R~!) ~ -4. Rg2-f2 ~ -5. Rg8-g2 and 1. Rc8#
