Bc2 is promoted, so the h-pawn promoted on e8 or g8 after capturing 3 times. Together with the captures on a3 and d3 all missing black pieces are accounted for. Because Rh8 couldn't have left the northeast corner, the promotion was on g8.

R131 - Alexander Zolotarev

Probleemblad Mar./Apr. 2001

The pawns on e4 and g6 are the white d- and c-pawn, so all missing black pieces are captured by pawns. So black promoted Paxb-b1, Pbxc-c1, Pc-c1. The other capture was hxg, and at least one pawn promoted on g1, so all missing white pieces were captured by pawns. White did 4 rook moves, black did 3, and they can't be retracted until Bh8 is freed.

Last moves were -1. d3xNe4 Nc3-e4 -2. b3-b4 Nb1-c3 -3. f5xNg6 b2-b1=N -4. e4xNf5 a3xNb2. Further retro-play: b2-b3; (Nc1-f5); (c7-c1=N); (Nc1-g6); (c4-c1=N); (b5xBc4); Bf1-c4; c2xNd3; (Ng1-d3); (g4-g1=N); d3xNe4; (Ng1-d3); (g3-g1=N); (g5-g4); g2xNf3; (Kh4-f4); Ke4-f5 etc.

The rook sequence is Ra1-d1 (Ra8-d8) Rd1-d2 (Rd8-d7) Rh1-h5 (Rh8-h7) Rh5-e5 5 CF-knights.

The rook must be uncaptured on a3, if it is uncaptured on a2 the white king is on the wrong square.
