All puzzle applets share a common user interface, although not all features are available in all puzzle applets. This is a generic user manual, covering the superset of all options in all applets.
• Click on the applet background to activate it. Without activation the applet will not react on keyboard input.
This is a collection of methods how to change the content of cells and the appearance of lines. Not all methods are available in all applets.
• Left-click on a cell to change it's value, maybe several times.
• Left-click on a line to change it's value, maybe several times (grid line, bold line, no line).
• Right-click on a cell and select the desired value from the popup-menu.
• Drag the value of a cell to a neighboring cell. Dragging works orthogonally and diagonally.
• [Ctrl]+Left-click changes the value of a cell to the current color. This works also for fixed cells.
• Move the cursor (the red frame) with the arrow keys to the cell you want to change.
• Enter the value directly (letters or numbers)
• Use [Delete] or [Backspace] to clear a cell.
• Use [Enter] and [Spacebar] to change the cell, maybe several times.
• Drag the value of a cell to a neighboring cell using the arrow keys while the [shift] key is down.
• Use {a,s,d} or {comma, dot, hyphen} in {gray, black, white} puzzles like Nurikabe or Heyawake.
Symbol markers: There are 9 symbol markers which can be used
to mark cells. A marker has no specific meaning; the semantics is up to the
solver. Symbol markers can be set and removed with the keyboard only: Ctrl+Q, W, E, R, X (
) and Ctrl+A, S,
D, F (
).
Symbol markers work also for fixed cells.
Value markers (pencil-marks): With
or [F7] you can toggle between the normal value input mode and the value
markers edit mode. In value markers edit mode you can edit the list of values
allowed for the cell.
Color markers: With
or
[Alt+0] to [Alt+9] you can select a color which is used to mark the following
moves. Selecting "Accept" [F8] you can change the color of all elements in the
current selected color to the default color. Selecting "Reject" you can remove
all elements in the current selected color.
Line markers: Click on a line to change the appearance of a line: Grid line, bold line, no line.
Undo and Redo: With

or [Home], [PgUp
],
[PgDn
] and [End] you
can move backwards and forwards in the move list.
Hints: With
or
[F3] you can enter the correct value into the current cell. Note that hints
are only available if a author's solution is specified.
Solution: With
or [F6] you can view the author's solution. Note that hints are only available
if a author's solution is specified.
Save and Load: With
you can save
the current state of the puzzle on the server; with
you can
load a saved state from the server. Note that this feature required cookies
and a some server support (i.e. a database on the server).
Check: With
or
[F6] you can check the current state of the puzzle. As a result all errors –
violations of the rules – are marked red in some way. Check does not show
which cells are actually erroneous.
Info: With
or [F1] you can view information about the puzzle and the applet.
Window: With
or [F12] you can move the puzzle from the HTML page to a separate, resize-able
window.
When the puzzle is solved the color of the toolbar automatically changed to green.
